Dean of the College of Education

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications and nominations for the position of dean of the College of Education. The university seeks an experienced, committed, and visionary leader who will embrace the UIC College of Education’s vision and guide the expansion of its highly-regarded, cutting-edge research and scholarship, academic programs, policy development, and community partnerships. The dean reports to the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, is the executive officer for the College of Education, and is a permanent member of the University Deans Council.

The College of Education, as an essential unit of an important, multifaceted urban research university, wrestles with society’s most pressing questions and challenges while striving to prepare the next generation of educators, leaders, policy makers, and researchers. With award-winning faculty who are national and international leaders in their fields, and a continuously growing portfolio of external funding, UIC’s College of Education has a long-standing and deep-rooted commitment to social justice, educational equity, and urban education. The college is ranked within the top 55 U.S. Colleges of Education, and is 33rd among U.S. public universities. Its innovative programs across four departments (Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Policy Studies, Educational Psychology, and Special Education) and two centers (Center for Literacy and Center for Urban Education Leadership) educate more than 1,000 students every year.

Candidates for this position must have an outstanding record of scholarly and educational achievement; a history of successful administrative experience; an unimpeachable commitment to the college’s mission including a demonstrated commitment to access, equity, and diversity; a record of advancing teaching excellence and faculty governance; fundraising ability; and the ability to strategically deploy resources, manage a complex organization, and promote a shared vision and concrete goals. Candidates must be eligible for a tenured position at the rank of full professor.
