Astrida Orle Tantillo is Dean of UIC’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences which serves over 10,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate level with more than 350 faculty members.  Under her leadership since 2010, she has heavily invested in student success and the strength of the faculty, increased external funding, and launched new curricula. In addition to her deanship, she has been a professor of Germanic studies and history at UIC for over 20 years. She previously served as the inaugural director of the College’s School of Literatures, Cultural Studies and Linguistics, where she oversaw six academic departments. Dean Tantillo’s scholarly interests are in 18^th-century literature (Goethe in particular), culture, and history of science. She is the author of three books, Goethe’s Modernisms (Continuum, 2010), The Will to Create: Goethe’s Philosophy of Nature (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2002), and Goethe’s Elective Affinities and the Critics (Camden House, 2001). She is the former president of the Goethe Society of North America and the founding editor of the book series (co-sponsored by the Goethe Society of North America and Bucknell University Press) on “Goethe and His Age.”

Dr. Andy Boyd is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences. He is also the Associate Chief Health Information Officer for Innovation and Research for the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Science System.  For his contribution to the field of Health Informatics, he was awarded 2015 UIC Researcher of the Year in Clinical Sciences, Rising Star. He has over 40 publications (with over 2000 citations). He has been a PI, Co-PI, Co-I on numerous grants from the NIH, DOD, and private foundations. The courses he has taught have been co-listed in the College of Applied Health Sciences, School of Public Health, and College of Business.

Dr. Boyd’s research focuses on “data simplification to improve clinical outcomes” engaging administrators, researchers and patients. A prior research success was in simplifying the transition for International Classification of Disease version 9 clinical modification (ICD-9-CM) to version 10 (ICD-10-CM), which occurred on Oct. 1, 2015. His recent work has measured the vocabulary differences between physicians and nurses to highlight the challenges and benefits to team based care.

Another area of data simplification to improve clinical outcomes is designing patient engagement tablets apps in cardiology and oncology to improve medication adherence through empowering the patients. The concept is to transform the data from the electronic health record system to engage patients in their own care to improve medication adherence.

Dr. Boyd also is the chair of the Information Technology Governance Council (ITGC) Research Committee.  The ITGC Research committee is a community of faculty across the university to advise Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC) about the computing needs on campus for the researchers.   Dr. Boyd also serves on the UIC Senate, the ad-hoc faculty advisory board for the Vice-Chancellor of Health Affairs and many university and college committees.

Kathryn Carpenter

Kathryn Carpenter has served as Associate University Librarian for Health Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago since 2007. Carpenter held previous appointments at UIC, serving as Acting Head of Regional Sites of the Library of the Health Sciences during 1991-1993, Bibliographer for the Health Sciences during 1988-1993, and several other positions at the Library of the Health Sciences during 1979 -1987. In her 40 years of professional experience, Carpenter has also served as library director for two universities, Valparaiso University and Purdue University Calumet, both in Indiana.

Carpenter was educated at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (M.S., Library Science, 1977, and A.B., Sociology, 1976).  She was selected to attend several leadership development programs, including the HERS/Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration (1986), the UCLA Senior Fellows Institute (held at Long Island University in 1995), the ACRL/Harvard Leadership Institute (2000), and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) seminar for Department Executive Officers (2009).  Most recently, she was accepted as a Fellow in the ARL Research Library Leadership Fellows Program (2010-2012).

Carpenter has published widely, including Sourcebook on Parenting and Child Care (Phoenix: Oryx Press, 1994) and “Collection Development: Childcare Selections to Grow On,” (Library Journal 117 [13]: 67-71, 1992). Carpenter co-authored the “U. S. Periodical Price Index for 1996,” (American Libraries 27 [5]: 97-105, 1996, as well as previous editions of the index in American Libraries in 1993-95 and Library Journal in 1989-92.  She served as editor for Library Administration and Management in 2001-02 (and as associate editor in 1999-00). She was recently appointed to the Advisory Council for the Ithaka S R study Organizational Trends in Academic Health Sciences Libraries.

She led the UIC Library Diversity Committee in 2013-2018 and is a member of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Task Force, as well as leading and serving on numerous library and university committees. Carpenter holds the rank of Professor on the UIC Library Faculty.

Rodney Chambers

Rodney Chambers has been at UIC for 7 years and he manage the business operations and financial services for the library.

The University Library Business Office is a critical managing arm of the Library Administration in the areas of budgeting, accounting, contract administration, strategic procurement, property management and financial reconciliation. The Business Team partners with every individual staff member and library department that needs any business-related customer service or assistance. These partnerships serve as a vehicle to educate staff and faculty members on policy and business procedure and to assist them in the completion of their daily transactions.

Rodney is responsible for managing the Library’s purchasing activities conducted on behalf of the campus departments, hospital and medical schools of Chicago, Rockford and Peoria, Illinois. Through innovative methods they can acquire goods and services necessary to fulfill the campus missions of education, research and public service in the most cost-effective means and in compliance with federal, State and University laws and policies.

Eileen Collins

Eileen Collins is the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Nursing and a Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Health Science at the University of Illinois.  She was also a Research Career Scientist and Acting Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development at the Edward Hines Jr., VA Hospital.  Dr. Collins received her PhD in Nursing from Loyola University. Her research efforts are focused on using innovative techniques for enhancing outcomes in pulmonary and peripheral vascular rehabilitation. She has received multiple federal grants for her work and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. She has served as a member of the Boards of Directors for the American Thoracic Society and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Emily Johnson-Barlow

Emily M. Johnson-Barlow is an Associate Professor and Regional Health Sciences Librarian at the Library of the Health Sciences – Peoria at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Johnson-Barlow joined the Library faculty at UIC in 2013.

Johnson-Barlow provides reference and research support to the Colleges of Medicine and Nursing faculty, staff, and students based in Peoria through classroom instruction and individual consultations. She is actively involved in the Evidence-based Medicine curriculum for the College of Medicine and is the course director of the two-week College of Medicine Peoria elective “Survey of Medical Informatics.”

Johnson-Barlow’s research focuses on the investigation of liaison librarian services and instruction. Her research aims to examine how users access and utilize information, deliver effective interventions to foster productive information-seeking behavior, and ground librarianship in instructional design theory and best practice principles. This research supports the development of EBP in liaison librarianship across the profession.

Johnson-Barlow earned her Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010. She also holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Information Resources from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. She is an active member of the Medical Library Association and the Health Science Librarians of Illinois.

Mary Keehn

Mary T. Keehn, PT, DPT, MHPE is the Director for Interprofessional Education in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the College of Applied Health Sciences.   Dr. Keehn originally came to UIC as an undergraduate student to study physical therapy.  Her career at UIC, prior to her current roles, has included clinical practice as a physical therapist, faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy and Director of Rehabilitation Services for the University of Illinois Hospital.

Dr. Keehn completed her physical therapy training and a Masters in Health Professions Education at UIC and earned a doctoral degree in physical therapy from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions. Her professional activities have included service on the Illinois Physical Therapy Licensing and Review Board, serving as a team leader for the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education and chairing the standards committee for licensure of foreign trained physical therapists for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.

In her current roles at UIC, she works with faculty, students and staff across all the health science colleges, the health care delivery system, the Office of Diversity and the University Library to develop curriculum for learners at all levels to develop competency in interprofessional collaborative practice ultimately leading to improved outcomes across the health care system.

Marcia Lausen

Marcia Lausen is Director of the School of Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago and founder of the Chicago office of Studio/lab. At UIC, Marcia leads a renowned faculty of professional designers variously engaged in contemporary interdisciplinary theory and practice. In 2007 she served on the UIC development team that established the UIC Innovation Center, and in 2016 she served on the Chancellor’s steering committee to host the Barack Obama Presidential Library. She was honored as a University Scholar in 2008 and a UIC Distinguished Professor in 2016.

At Studio/lab, Marcia and her colleagues integrate four areas of communication design practice: identity, information, publication, and environment. The studio’s award-winning work has been exhibited at the AIGA National Design Center; Art Institute of Chicago; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum; Index, Copenhagen; and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

Following the 2000 presidential election, Marcia played a leading role in a national election design reform initiative that resulted in federal guidelines for the design of ballots and election materials. Her book, Design for Democracy, was published in 2007 by the University of Chicago Press. Marcia received a BFA in graphic design from Indiana University and an MFA in graphic design from Yale University. She was named a 2004 Fast Company Master of Design and a 2010 fellow of AIGA. In 2015 she received the AIGA Medal.

Linda Naru is Assistant University Librarian for Administrative Services and Assistant Dean at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  In her current position, she is responsible for Library facilities, budget and finance, communications, and strategic planning.  Naru came to UIC in 1998 as the Director of Development for the Library. Previously, she worked as a librarian at the Center for Research Libraries, the California Academy of Sciences, and the Michigan State University Libraries.  She holds a master’s degree in library science from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public administraion from UIC.

Clark Stanford

Dr. Clark Stanford is Dean of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, and UIC Distinguished Professor. He is the 44^th person in the history of UIC to receive the Distinguished Professor designation. Previously, he was Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Prosthodontics at the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry. While Dr. Stanford had been at Iowa for 35 years, he is a native of the Chicagoland area, having grown up in Northbrook, IL. Dr. Stanford received his BS in 1984, DDS (1987), Certificate in Prosthodontics and PhD in cell biology in 1992.  He joined Iowa’s faculty that year.

An accomplished researcher whose work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), private foundations, and industry, Dr. Stanford has focused his laboratory studies on osteoblastic gene expression and signaling pathways. He is the author of more than 28 book chapters, more than 150 published papers, and more than 200 research and Clinical presentations.

Dr. Stanford currently serves on several national and international committees, including the NIH/NIDCR Council, International Association for Dental Research, the Academy of Prosthodontics, and the Academy of Osseointegration (AO). For the AO, he is on the Executive Board and President-Elect.

He was a member of the board of the American College of Prosthodontists, and is currently chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council of the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias. Dr. Stanford is a member of the American and International Associations for Dental Research, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the American Dental Association, the American Society for Cell Biology, and the Orthopaedic Research Society. He is a fellow of the Academy of Prosthodontics, the International Team for Oral Implantology, The American College of Dentists, The International College of Dentists and The Institute of Medicine of Chicago.

Dr. Stanford has won 15 teaching awards. He treats patients for complex rehabilitation, with an emphasis in craniofacial anomalies, at the UIC College of Dentistry. He is the 17th Dean in the UIC College of Dentistry’s history, Dr. Stanford assumed his duties Oct. 1, 2014.
